Olives

Wander through the groves of olives suited to either oil or table (pickling). Varieties already growing well despite the drought are Leccino (oil); Picual (oil/table); Arbequina (oil); Piccoline (table); Barnea (oil); Pendulino (cross pollination and oil); Frantoio (oil); Volos (table); Kalamata (table); Manzanillo (oil/table); Koroneiki (cross pollination and oil).  As well as varieties on display in groves we have an olive tree grove using Frantoio olive trees, my personal favourite for oil, and there are 160 trees in this maze and covers 700m2 in area

Arbequina – small dense growing; prolific small fruit (oil)

Barnea – large, fast growing (oil)

Frantoio – medium to fast growth, large tree (oil)

Kalamata – grafted variety, medium growth, tall tree (table)

Koroneiki – medium growth tree, good pollinator, makes great specimen (oil)

Leccino – vigorous growing tall tree, good fruiting habit (oil)

Manzanillo – slow to medium growth tree, dual purpose (table/oil)

Pendulino – medium to fast growing tree, lovely weeping habit, used commonly for pollinating other varieties (oil)

Piccoline – vigorous full growth, arguably France’s most favourite olive (table)

Picual – medium to large tree, prolific fruiting, used mainly for oil but can be for table also (oil/table)

Volos – medium tree with excellent table olive, grafted variety (table)
